Longevity & Healthy Ageing
Getting stronger as you get older is not just possible; it is one of the most important things you can do.
What Changes As We Age &
What We Can Do About It
From our mid-thirties onwards, the body naturally begins to lose muscle mass and strength. Left unchecked, this gradual decline affects everything: energy, mobility, balance, and the ability to do the things that matter in daily life.
But here is what most people do not realise: a large part of that decline is driven by inactivity, not age alone. The body responds to the demands placed on it. Give it a consistent reason to stay strong, and it will.
Research consistently shows that people who engage in regular strength training retain significantly more muscle, better function, and greater physical independence as they age, often outperforming people decades younger who have not trained. At Instinct, this is something we see in practice every day.
Why Strength Is the Foundation
Strength training is not just one option among many for healthy ageing, it is the most important one. It preserves muscle mass, supports bone density, protects joints, and underpins your ability to move well and live independently. It is also one of the most effective tools for managing weight, improving energy, and supporting mental well-being.
The goal is not to become an athlete. It is to remain capable, confident, and strong for the decades ahead; and to enjoy the life that allows.
How We Approach It at Instinct
Our Longevity and Healthy Ageing personal training programme is built specifically for people who want to take the long view on their health. We work with members across a wide range of ages and starting points, from those who have never trained before to those returning after years away, and we build every programme around the individual in front of us.
Our coaching team has over five decades of combined experience. We know how the body changes with age, and we know how to train it well.
